6.3 Field Experiences
Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. (PSC 6.3)
Artifacts: Field Experience Log
Reflection:
This artifact is the one of the field experience logs I completed throughout the Instructional Technology program in my ITEC classes. Other field experiences can be found here [insert link when posted to Weebly]. Each semester I documented hours completed for assigned tasks as well as unassigned experiences. Each log details hours spent, demographic of faculty and/or students involved, and personal reflections of that experience.
The field experiences allowed me the opportunity to demonstrate my mastery of Standard 6.3, which states that candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. In completing this artifact I was able to not only learn about technology in my course work but to synthesize those skills into practice, positively impacting student achievement and teacher professional development. These logs are a reminder of how my school benefited from this program. Additionally, because of the requirement, I found myself participating in activities relating to technology that I normally would not have in my roles as a classroom teacher. These specific experiences allowed me to grow both as a classroom teacher and as a coach.
This experience allowed me to work with educators and students in diverse settings while applying the skills needed to become a successful technology coach. While I found finding time to perform these tasks challenging, I am glad that I was required to go outside of my own environment to work in a technology capacity. If I had to do these field experiences again, I would try to complete more outside of my current school. I found that I learned more from working in different environments and found those experiences more enriching to my growth as a technology leader. These field experiences allowed me to implement what I have learned through this program.
My field experiences were involved directly with the school I worked in (Central High School) or in the feeder middle (Miller Middle) or one of the feeder elementary school (Alexander II). Depending on the field experience, the impact was felt by my own students in my classroom, my department, my schools’ faculty, and the students of others teachers. Overall, in terms of technology integration, it is my hope that the teachers I worked with see a greater use of technology integration into their own classrooms. Additionally, I hope the students see an academically rigorous classroom environment that is engaging and meaningful to them.
