Artifact: Current Reality and GSAPS
Reflection
Through interviews with my administrator, department chair, school leaders and reading through old school council meeting minutes, I wrote a current reality for Roswell High School. Through the currently reality, I investigated and communicated the school vision for technology, completed needs assessment, discussed professional learning in instructional technology, school technology goals, funding and incentives, school collaboration, and diversity. Additionally, I completed a partial GSAPS with evidence relating to the technology standards.
Through this artifact, I had to complete a needs assessment at a new school, documenting evidence. Through this activity, I was allowed to fully immerse myself in learning about a school I had recently begun to work at. Additionally, I saw how administrators, leadership teams, and instructional coaches use data to make and support decisions.
I learned some different ways schools seek out technology funding in addition to some of the behind the scene decision making in professional learning decisions. Analyzing strengths and weakness allowed me to see areas where the school could improve and how some previous implementations led to some positive changes. If I were to do this activity differently, I would have sought out more information from additional school leaders – particularly department chairs in departments other than my own.
This activity simply looked at the current reality and evaluation of the school. Recently, I was asked to serve as the math department representative to the principal’s council. In this role, I will be able to meet with the principal to relay concerns and questions from my department regarding my school. By completely this activity, I got to gain some insight into a school where I started recently working at this past August – which makes me a more informed teacher and able to suggest and brainstorm ideas for changes.
