Artifact: Shared Vision
Reflection:
Standard 1.1 outlines the expectation for the facilitation of developing and implementing a shared vision for the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership. While completing this assignment I reflected on my school’s current vision of technology as well as the school district’s vision. My school had in place a technology initiative and many times I heard the principal articulate how this initiative should look and feel within our building. However, I found no written vision for technology had been formally drafted. Standard 1.1 specifically calls for candidates to facilitate the development of a shared vision for the use of technology. My role in facilitating the development of this formal vision was to take what our principal had articulated and work with the Leadership Team to develop the vision into a shared statement. To do that I employed research from the International Society for Technology in Education and other scholarly articles and shared those with the leadership team at my school. From there I facilitated the creation of a vision statement that addressed technology use at the school level with the Leadership Team. I presented the final draft of the School Technology Vision at the Faculty Meeting and engaged faculty in collaborative discussion of how this vision would look and feel in practice.
With a clear technology vision in place, the leadership team is now able to look at technology initiatives and determine if those ideas align with the vision set. The team has been able to further the vision into developing a Technology Leadership committee and creating goals that align with the vision. As a member of that committee, I am able to critically examine the work of the committee to ensure that our committee work aligns with the vision for the school.
In completing this assignment, I was able to see the need for a clear focus on how technology should look and feel at the building level. This learning experience allowed me to assist in articulating what the vision for technology in education means within my school environment and to implement that vision as a measure of where our technology implementation should be. For a true shared vision, I would want to seek the feedback of all stakeholders - teachers, parents, students, community members, and anyone else who has a stake in the public school.
