3.2 Managing Digital Tools and Resources
Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. (PSC 3.2/ISTE 3b)
Artifact: Google Classroom
Reflection:
I use Google Classroom as a student management system in my classroom. I am fortunate enough to have a school that supports Google Classroom. Google Classroom can be used to post homework and classwork assignments, answer keys, announcements, additional resources, class notes, among other tools for students. I also have students on occasion turn in major assignments and projects through Google Classroom.
Students enjoy having a depository of all of the information and content they are to master throughout the year. When students are out sick or on a field trip, they are still able to access to material each day to stay current with new material. Students can comment on homework keys to ask each other questions and work together to learn and work on the material.
For a lot of the artifact, I learned a lot of the inner workings and “tricks” to do with Google Forms, Documents, and Sheets. I also experimented with using Google Forms and other online resources for quick formative assessment for students. I do wish – and am still working on – creating better content for Google Classroom and uploading notes ahead of time (for students who need guided notes for 504s, ESL students, etc).
This artifact supported my students and I in Pre-Calculus. I plan on using it next year with my younger students as well. The impact can be assessed through my unit assessments and the formative assessments throughout the year. Student feedback could be important to determine what works best and what could be improved with how I utilize Google Classroom. I would also like to investigate and observe how other secondary math teachers use Google Classroom in their own classrooms for new ideas.
